Girls swarm mom, son

London's deputy police chief said he's shocked by the beatings of a mother and son who were swarmed outside their home by teens.
"It's unbelievable," deputy police Chief Ian Peer said yesterday.
"It's beyond me where the parental control is. And if they're not there, then some agency needs to step in and take control."
A group of young females confronted the 37-year-old woman outside her Marconi Boulevard townhouse, police said.
The girls punched and kicked the woman. One pounded the woman in the head with a shoe, taunting, her, police said.
Six females -- five youths and one adult -- are charged in that attack that happened one week ago but was disclosed by police yesterday.
Three of the girls also are charged in a Feb. 2 swarming on Highbury Avenue near Huron Street. As many as 25 youths, mainly teenage girls, attacked a 15-year-old boy whose 19-year-old sister was also beaten when she tried to help.
The Highbury and Marconi attacks are not connected, police said.
There had been ongoing problems between the woman and the girls in the weeks leading up to the attack that started about 9 p.m. on April 23 when the group banged on the front door of the woman's townhouse, police said.
One of the females said she had a knife, which wasn't seen, and tried to goad the woman into a fight when another girl charged with fists swinging.
The other girls joined in, police said, kicking and punching the woman in the head and body.
One girl "removed her shoe and began to strike the (woman) with the shoe 50 to 60 times in the head and shoulders saying that the (woman) could not do anything to her (because) she was only 12," Const. Amy Phillipo said.
The woman's 17-year-old son stepped in and began separating the girls.
Males from the neighbourhood began to punch and kick him, police said.
They repeatedly stomped on the 17-year-old's head, causing him to temporarily lose consciousness, police said.
A man who did not want to be identified said he saw the attacks as he sat on his front step.
"When her son came out to help his mom, a bunch of five guys started beating him. His face was on the pavement and they started stomping on his head."
The man said he was hit several times when he tried to help the boy.
The suspects fled before police arrived.
Police continue to investigate the assault on the teen.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
The woman and her son, treated at hospital, are staying at a shelter, a source said.
Residents in the public housing complex where the beating occurred said the attack by the gang of youths isn't unusual.
"There are little fights, big fights, every day. As soon as the good weather comes, they come out of the woodwork," one resident said.
Neighbours said the troubles began on Halloween when there was a confrontation between the woman and the girls.
Since, the girls have continually harassed the woman.
"They would throw eggs, rocks, sticks at her house, sit outside and call her names, follow her," said one neighbour who, like several others, refused to give her name.
"They never fight one-on-one, always in a group. They walk in a crowd and fight in a crowd."
"It was a ridiculous situation, young children fighting a grown lady who had a child less than two years old in the house and they said they didn't care," said one woman.
"I don't need this drama and violence in my life, I have a child to worry about."
Six females, one 20 and the rest aged 16 through 12, were arrested Tuesday. They appeared in court yesterday.
A 12-year old, 13-year-old and one of three 16-year-olds also are charged in the Highbury assault.
Assistant Crown attorney Mark Czerkawski said it was "a donnybrook at the complex."
B Sarah Lonney, 20, is charged with harassment and assault.
B Three 16-year-olds are charged with harassment and assault.
B A 13-year-old female is charged with assault.
B A 12-year-old is charged with harassment and assault with a weapon.
The 12-year old, 13-year-old and one of the 16-year-olds also are charged in the Highbury assault.
Residents say three of the youths are sisters.
The six females appeared in court yesterday.
Four youths were kept in custody and have bail hearings scheduled for tomorrow.
One youth was released on bail. She's scheduled to return to court on May 5.
Lonney also was released on bail. Her next court date is May 7.
A publication ban was placed on the evidence at Lonney's hearing.
But at the youths' court appearances, in a brief description of the events for the court, assistant Crown attorney Mark Czerkawski said it was "a donnybrook at the complex."
I would love to introduce these kids to a mace.
