How do I get my computer to re-recognize my USB ports located on the side of my monitor? Not sure why but if I plug something into them now it doesn't work, then when I plug the device into the back of the tower it's fine.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

It's not plug n' play?
It should recognize it when you plug it in.

It's not recognizing anything I plug into them. Tried a web cam as well as a flash drive.

The monitor probably is just acting like a hub. Meaning you need to have a USB your cable running from your monitor to computer, to activate those plugs. They will not magically work through your monitor cable.

Yes, you are correct. There's a cable that runs from the monitor to the computer to activate those plugs. Unfortunately those plugs suddenly stopped working for some unknown reason after 3 years. I've unplugged the "hub USB" and when I plugged it back it I get a message saying "USB device not recognized. One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it." I think I may need a new USB Hub plug.

try booting the computer in safe mode, and go to the devoce manager. see if anything has a warning, if not click on the usb hub, and uninstall. than reboot normally and see if it picks it up.

Your best bet is typing the model number of your monitor (which 9 times out of ten is right directly in front of you and if not, check the back sticker) into google. So for example "hp mx960 USB not recognized" or something to that effect. The less words, and more descriptive, the better chances you'll have at finding somebody with the same problem. And I guarantee somebody has had the exact same problem, they always do.
Or better yet, check the website of the people who made it, and they usually have downloads like patches and things on their website. There's always the chance that your monitor just shit the bed, that happens too.

I think hte uninstalling/reboot idea was the best personally. Should pick it up automatically.

Thanks SS...I went and got a new usb plug but that didn't seem to work so I'll try to do as you instructed here and hope I don't f*ck things up too bad. Gotta say, I'm not the most literate computer expert out there.
Thanks!

Windows automatic updates have a way of spoiling your fun also, your update download history is available in windows update website(providing that's the OS you're using)
