I loved his calls. He really seemed like a good guy, and really "got" the boys.

I have a feeling we all will miss having him as their advocate in management.

This is not good for the show at all.

Veteran radio industry executive Eric Logan has been named executive vice president, Harpo. The announcement was made today by Tim Bennett, president, Harpo Productions, to whom Logan will report. In this newly-created role, he will oversee several divisions within the company including Harpo Radio, Harpo Print and Harpo Retail. Logan will also help manage the company’s talent relations efforts, handling relationships with top-tier talent across all Harpo platforms.

In addition, he will help accelerate the company’s expansion into digital and mobile initiatives, including partnering with Harpo Development on new media offerings for the upcoming series “Dr. Oz” (working title). Logan will begin his new role in mid-August.

Logan joins Harpo from XM Satellite Radio, where he served as executive vice president for programming and broadcast operations since August 2004. In that role, he directed a staff of approximately 400 to build the entire content platform and helped grow the subscriber base from approximately 2 million to beyond 9 million subscribers today. He also negotiated partnerships and managed day-to-day relationships with major content providers including Major League Baseball, PGA Tour, CNN, Clear Channel Communications and Fox News, and with key talent including Bob Dylan, Quincy Jones and Harpo’s own Oprah & Friends channel. Prior to XM, Logan served as president of programming for Citadel Broadcasting.

Previously, he held positions of increasing responsibility at Infinity Broadcasting over a decade-long tenure, including vice president of programming. Logan’s move to Chicago is a homecoming of sorts; in 2002 and 2003 he helped make Chicago’s WUSN-FM the #1 country music station in America as operations manager and country format captain for Infinity. His first job in media was in 1985 as a radio station mascot in Oklahoma City, Okla.

“Over the past several years in our exciting partnership with XM Radio, we've seen Eric shine. From his ability to paint a picture of possibilities for Harpo in satellite radio to his gifted capability in working with both talent and teams he has earned the respect of management across our growing company,” said Bennett.

"I'm very excited to be joining Harpo at time when the future for the company has never been brighter. The opportunity to work with the entire organization on ways we can further grow our content offerings across all our platforms and showcase our talent portfolio is truly an opportunity of a lifetime," said Logan.

Harpo Productions, Inc. produces the number-one-rated, award-winning The Oprah Winfrey Show; creates and develops original TV programming for primetime, syndication and cable television; and operates Oprah.com (www.oprah.com), a premier lifestyle website. Harpo Print, LLC and Hearst Magazines publish the monthly O, The Oprah Magazine and quarterly O at Home publications. Harpo Films, Inc. produces feature films as well as top-rated telefilms under the "Oprah Winfrey Presents" banner. Harpo Radio, Inc. produces Oprah & Friends (Channel 156) on XM Satellite Radio. Harpo Retail includes Chicago-based The Oprah Store and its companion website. Harpo, Inc. has also recently partnered with Discovery Communications to launch a new cable network, The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) in 2009.

The writing is on the wall. For all the talk of this being a merger, it's obviously a takeover of XM by Sirius. Logan walked before they made him run.

I hope Ron and Fez and O & A emerge from this unscathed.

i worry about the fate of 202 a little, but i think they'll be fine. hopefully they realize that it brings XM a shitload of subscriptions, i know they wouldnt have mine if it werent for the virus.

Word. I bought XM the day Detroit dropped O&A and I will drop XM the second the Virus is gone.

E-lo is a big help to the boys. No one is there to say hey "O&A = good" :) Who is there now... wiki ?

sorry, I said this a year or two ago when they got suspended, I'll never go back to terrestrial...

...and I've been with O&A since you had to pay an extra 2$ to hear them.

Sorry. Anything's better than terrestrial.

If they truly are bringing subscribers and are one of the top channels on XM, nothing will happen to them. Mel and Howard may hate them, but it all comes down to the bottom line. We will know the truth about their impact if this "merger" completes.

I'm still kind of betting long odds that the merger never completes. been almost a year and a half, XM was 2 times stronger stock than Sirius...none of it fucking adds up.

Hoo Hoo.

I did say "long" odds.

Either way, how fucked up all this shit been doesn't bode well for ANYONE...especially surviving subscribers.

...but a whole new generation of shit eaters won't know the difference...

Hooray!

XM has a lot of debt, a lot of this debt is owed to Oprah / Harpo - could it be the E-Lo was traded to Harpo in an effort to reduce some of the debt.

Either way I still don't like the merger. I want competition and choice in satellite radio service, just like I get in satellite TV service.

This is not a sports team.

He saw the writing on the wall and jumped shipped like any smart person would. He simply made contacts with Harpo as a result of the deal that was made between XM and Harpo.

Here take E-lo and we have no more debt....?

He left because XM is falling apart and Oprah isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
