I just had my computer repaired and I don't understand what they did or replaced because I dont understand their computer lingo shits.
All the paper says is:
Problem Description: Replace MLB
Parts Replaced: 6K.4V5MB.001
Description: SHIBA13 MB FF 05234-5 ... W/O C&D
In english, what the hell does this mean? (and im sure MLB does not mean Major League Baseball)

It has something to do with the computers logic board.

A logic board is the Apple Macintosh equivalent of a motherboard. The term logic board was coined back in the 1980s, when the compact Macs at the time had two separate circuit boards, the Logic Board, containing all of the computer's "logic" circuitry (processor, RAM, etc.), and the analog board, containing all of the hardware necessary to drive the built-in display and to power the rest of the computer's components. The term logic board stuck over the years of Macintosh manufacturing, even in the non-all-in-one Macs. A longtime practice for Apple when an existing model was upgraded was to offer a logic board upgrade where a user could bring their computer into an Apple dealer and have the old logic board replaced with the new one, along with other upgrades necessary to bring their computer in line with the new model's specs. The old logic board would be kept by the dealer as a trade in.

I'm not positive, but I think it stands for Main Logic Board, which is what they used to call the motherboard.
Just a thought
[edit]..sorry I didn't see the above post before I submitted

ok, here is a general description of what was wrong with my computer....
First off, the computer that was repaired is not a mac (although i appreciate that explanation..) It's an HP Pavilion
Anyway, if i were to turn on my laptop all of the lights on my keyboard would light up (like that should) but my screen/monitor would never turn on. It would just be a black screen. The monitor wouldn't even GLOW to indicate that it is on.
I would have to toggle the power button multiple times to turn the laptop on and off until the screen would finally turn ON.
Also, if i were to let the computer Idle and the display turns off, it wouldn't turn back on when i came back. I would have to again, keep turning the laptop on and off, on and off until the stupid screen would turn back on.
I decided to do a system restore to see if that were the problem. But it didn't help. It also took about 8 hours for the system restore to complete only because when the computer has to restart the screen wouldn't turn on.
Tech support also had me reinstall the bios of the laptop and the screen problem still happened.
So i sent it in and they replace this MLB thing... just wanted to know what it was that they actually fixed... any help would be awesome =)
Considering its a laptop, my guess is faulty wiring/soldering or what have you. But only time i've had a problem like that was usually a RAM problem but it wouldn't work from the get-go let alone work then decide to fuck off.
If it was under warranty and didn't cost you anything, don't worry about it, or if your really stingy can call them up and ask for clarification i suppose. Sorry can't be of more help.

I had it under an extended warranty plan so it didn't cost me anything. I was just being curious that's all. As long as it turns on with out having to fight with it, I'm happy.
Also, i had a feeling it was a motherboard problem...

Just keep the record of it for if it fucks up again, which chances are it will, then if its out of warranty can shove it in the face of whichever Bob from India you talk to and maybe catch a break.

haha... i believe his name was Sumair or something. the warranty is still good for another year (or longer) so if it fucks up again i'll throw it at the habib.

MLB = system board = planar board = main board = motherboard
They're all the same thing. Motherboard is the most commonly heard term. They were probably just abbreviating for the sake of their invoice...and to confuse the general population, of course.:)
