Too late. Its already going to happen.

XM feels that the talk programming on the weekend has a much lower listernership than does the talk programming they are going to be replacing (with the college basketball).

XM has run up against a bandwidth wall. They have no more spectrum. Its not a matter of using unused channel #s... they HAVE to use the talk channels spectrum as they have no more elsewhere.

Sirius just ran up against this wall long ago...hence the preemption of their talk programming for a lot longer now.

The only way they will get "more bandwidth" persey is to get 100% of the people off of today's generation of radios (xm and sirius) and get them all onto the new SiriusXM radios, that can address each sat caster's section of bandwidth and effectively double the bandwidth. Then they'll have killed all the duplicate channels (80s on 8 and Big 80s for example... only one will live on).

Then the spectrum freed up from removing dup channels with same programming will allow them to broadcast this weekend only programming w/o interrupting other full time channels.


But dont expect this to happen ANYTIME soon as that will be a long and painful replacement process for the company AND the consumers to replace their radios, ALL of the millions of radios out there.

2) Have you ever listened to the actual bandwidth allocated to these channels? I cant remember the math but I think the space they allocate to a traffic channel is about 1/3 to 1/4 that of the talk channels or like 1/6 to 1/8 of a music channel.

The low bandwidth makes the channels very difficult to listen for long periods of time (listener fatigue) because of compression artifacts. Just listen to them, it sounds like they are underwater.

Excellent point, but I dont think they are worried about it honestly. Its a pay service thats not FCC regulated. If there's complaints, I'm sure they'll be neglegable to non-existant. Thats the reality.

Satellite radio used to NARROWCAST. Well unfortunately that has never netted them a profit to date, so they are taking this approach... mainstream. The golden era of satellite radio is slowly coming to an end.

I just have to say this. I pay for XM but I download the show from Audible. So I pay $12.95 a month for XM and $12.95 a month for Audible (my choice). I look on here at this thread just to see what is up for the show each day. If they are back live or what.
Ok...that said...I really don't understand why alot of you even listen. All you do is complain. I am happy everyday just to have the chance to listen to the show. Sure I don't laugh at every bit and since I listen to the entire show everyday I do hear alot of things repeated, but I just figure that not everyone listens to every single minute.
I live in California so some things that are talked about that are local I don't know about but I still love to hear them.

To me, I think they should use the hockey channels right now and then the baseball channels in the end of September/early October. They have these channels that they don't use and are already sports channels. Why the fuck not?
