So I just got finished watching American Gangster, and I thought it was decent. I definitely don't think it deserved the hype it has gotten. I know Ronnie B said he didn't like showing both sides of the story, but I thought it added to the movie. Denzel played his role amazingly, almost to the point where i wanted him to win. He was giving back to his family and the community. Like the Robin Hood of heroin. Then there is Russel Crowe, the pathetic cop with a bitch of an ex wife and a kid he can't see (typical cop character you would see in any movie or TV show). Crowe played his role well, I just don't know how much i buy a straight cop who was "just friends" with mob bosses. There were a few scenes from the movie that reminded me of scenes from better movies like when crowe and denzel were sitting in the interrogation room reminded me of pacino and deniro sitting in the coffee shop in heat. The bad guy and the good guy face off verbaly. and when Denzel beat that guy down using his piano reminded me of Joe Pesci beating the shit out of Billy Batts in Goodfellas, just a maniac snapping. All in all if i had to be the judge I would go with 7.5/10
Keep in mind I am not movieguy, just my opinion. If you have a torrent application, this one is crystal clear and DVD quality.
