Rep. Lynn Westmoreland says

Honestly, I've never paid that much attention to Michelle Obama," Westmoreland said. "Just what little I've seen of her and Senator [Barack] Obama, is that they're a member of an elitist class...that thinks that they're uppity."

"Uppity, you said?" he was asked.

"Yeah, uppity," Westmoreland replied.

Good luck w/ that comment...

its hard to be open minded when a group of people look for something to be offended by. fuckin uppity is predjudice now? really? it's impossible to try to make that a racist thing or anything offensive or worth getting in trouble over.

and just to put it out there, im not predjudice, i do have a couple black friends, i've fucked black broads, when i meet someone i don't not give them a chance because they're black.

im just a little racist i guess becaue as a whole, they need some work, and haven't done anything to prove to me otherwise. Shit's a little different and less open minded around my way. and thats how i like it.

OK, I'll explain it the best way I can.

It's not to a certain degree the words. And anyone can tell you that it's the application of it. Many in the O&A community that get upset about this kind of thing put it in a context that's not really practical.

Jokes, and humor and all, fine. This wasn't a joke. And again, it's not the words, it's the disrespect behind the words. The motives.

We all know full well when you refer to black people, and you say uppity there's naturally something that comes behind it. I mean c'mon.

Sometimes the shit actually happens where you disrespect a person, and what should happen next? Just laugh it off? Whether you like it or not people still have the prerogative to respond to shit when it's said in society. You can say what you say, and I can respond. Everyone has that right. But expect repurcussions for what you say.

i agree with most of what you're saying, except for this part. i don't see calling someone uppity disrespectful, and i don't think there is anything that comes behind it. Uppity is just causin a comotion and assumin things, shit like that.

The fact that he called 2 people uppity, is only a big deal because they are black. and that is what pisses me the fuck off. Unless i'm not as racist as i think i am, i don't think for a second the dude meant anything about they're color, and i think it's a HUUUUUGE grasp to even attempt to make this about race.

And no, you don't just laugh it off when you're really upset and hurt. You either strike back, or shut your mouth and take it like a grown up. Not cry about it because someone hurt your fealings like a fuckin 3rd grader.

We argue over these words. And true, the words themselves mean little. It's the intent behind it.

I mean I understand the frustration over it all, but seriously, tell me. If we're at an O&A event, and you're there with your girl, and I call her a cunt and disrespect her to your and her face what's next?

Simple word, we all know the connotation. We all laugh at it everyday on the show when someone uses it. But when applied to you or someone you know, attached with the intent to fuck with you it's different.

To say you don't know that that is the way it's used is asinine at best. You can ask anyone on the street in any fucking town out there that the phrase "uppity nigger" is commonplace.

Let's not insult anyone's intelligence.

"uppity nigger"

A) i either say something to you like a grown up, punch you in the mouth, or just eat it. (option 3 would never happen). regardless, i wouldnt go bitch about it to someone else. i'm not a child, and i'd expect the same from any other adult.

and the example you use is callin someone a cunt. thats a blatent insult/disrespectful thing to say. you gotta make the word "flagrant" or some shit sound bad for me to agree with you on this one.

B) Maybe i'm the stupid one, cuz i come from a pretty racist city, and have never heard the phrase "uppity nigger". infact thats one of the only words i haven't heard used before or after the word nigger. i suppose that's why i'm so confused on this situation. if thats a common phrase i didnt know about, i can see someone taking it wrong (although they shouldn't, "uppity" itself is a bad word now? fuckin rediculous). People need to grow up, regardless.

uppity
1880, from up; originally used by blacks of other blacks felt to be too self-assertive (first recorded use is in "Uncle Remus"). The parallel British variant uppish (1678) originally meant "lavish;" the sense of "conceited, arrogant" being first recorded 1734.

Yeah but you're comparing these to personal real life one on ones. This is a totally different setting and circumstance. Also taking into context the claim of them being in an elitist class, it fits, they totally give off that vibe of being self-entitled and uppity.

Yeah. I'm from the Atlanta area originally. Pretty commonplace. Hell, in my family I have Sicilians, Blacks, and Germans. So none of this shit is shocking to me. I have heard it all, but still. When it comes to stuff like this on either side it's like people are asking one segment of the population to take the hits and do nothing or say anything at all. That's unrealistic.

If you're white and you get shit, I believe full well you have the right to speak up in response. And the same the other way around.

But on the net for some reason people just expect you to roll over and say nothing at all when shit like this does happen. Like you're supposed to just take it, and smile it off.

That's just unrealistic.

But it's just words, and indirect ones that can go either way very easily in terms of a racist remark or not. I mean if someone was hanging a mannequin with a picture of her face on it and jerking off on it while screaming out uppity nigger, I could understand it.

The guy is running for presidency, he parades his family out there because obviously he doesn't believe he is competent on his own merits, and if a small comment like that is the basis for an outrage, then we're in even more trouble than I originally thought.

So you're taking it personal because your black/or have blacks in your family. Step back and look at it. I never said they were supposed to do nothing. (Matta fact, mabey they shouldn't do anything, they're politicians, not 20 year olds). But i have no problem with people saying anything back and in no way think that people should just lie down and take shit. Where my problem lies, is where they took the word "uppity", wich sounds pretty inocent to me, and made it a race thing. Or made it offensive. I just don't get it. And like i said before maybe i dont get it because i never heard "uppity nigger".

i don't know but the fact that a dude called someone uppity, should never in the history of the world in any way, be news.

OK, but here's what I don't get. And I'll ask you guys this. Cause I really want to know the answer to it.

Take an Obama. Half black, won't argue that. But the man himself has done fairly well for himself. I don't agree with a good deal of his politics, but as a person I mean he's not out doing crack, or speaking ebonics, or riding in a car with big ugly rims or wearing one of those long t shirts with big pants hanging off his ass with braids in his hair with a mouth full of gold teeth.

Now even being part black I'd call someone doing all that shit a nigger. But Obama is none of that. Why is a black man with a good job, who speaks well, who has an education, dresses well, and isn't in jail or has 8 kids and is contributing to society still considered a nigger?

I mean what would it take short of melanin removal to be accepted? What standard does a black man have to live up to, and what amount of achievement would it take to remove that stigma, in the eyes of white people?

Even if you're a black guy who culturally even identifies more with white people, gets along, and maybe even seeks to emulate them. What is the level you have to rise above to be accepted?

Just asking.

Other than his stupid campaign slogan of "Change" and him trying to milk him being black for what it's worth, I really don't care that he's black, like I didn't care that Hilary was a woman.

Just everything I've seen so far, he seems self-absorbed and stuck up and fake. Granted thats basically all politicians, i've lived in Arizona for 12 years so i've had time to know about McCain so I'm paying less attention to him.

It's not about color to me other than it being used as a political tool, as far as other people, I can't speak for them.

YourAmishDaddy
09-06-2008, 03:07 PM
Only reason I can't stand McCain is the man in my opinion has sold his soul to become president. Well that and the campaign finance reform bill he co sponsored. Which was blatantly unconstitutional but passed anyway.

One thing I don't take well is when I place my faith in someone, or a group of people and I'm disappointed. I rarely recover from that. I placed my faith in republicanism, and I was essentially betrayed. I'll never return to them. Done deal.

Obama is in no way shape or form a nigger, frankly, he's far whiter than i am if you wanna look at it like that. And probly more succesful than i'll ever be, etc.

All black people can be reffered to as niggers because thats what color they are, but i agree that technically nigger is a way of life, and a way one presents himself. I've seen MANY white niggers. And Obama isn't a nigger in that sense.

That being said, he's still black, and weather it's right nor not, its part of the reason i'm not voting for him. Sorry, i have no explination for that. Im just being honest.

But like i said i have black friends that are strait niggers, and black friends that are civilized. But if a stranger looks at them, they can't tell the difference between the two because of skin color.

But then again, maybe for all we know Obama is a nigger. Not in the sell crack shoot cop way, but just the ignorant cheap asshole kinda way. There's lots of different types of niggers.
