I'm buying a stereo for my car this weekend, and i always see "satalite ready" in some of the ad papers next to some of the faceplates...

would this serve as my new XM unit? and i can just put my subscription onto that unit? or when it says that, does it just mean it has another aux input to make it easier to hook a unit up to?

Anyone know?

No, I think you need this (http://www.xmradio.com/xm-direct/index.xmc).

Funny thing is, one page says it's $99, and another says $299.

Either way, it's cheaper to buy a regular xm receiver.

I have an XM head unit in my jeep and I needed to get that box also. The whole installation and items came to like 900. If you are planning on getting a head unit, then go with an XM ready head unit and that converter box b/c it will look way cleaner. If you don't give a shit, just get a portable unit with a car kit.

did you have to pay the 299 or the 99 for the box? i'd rather get the head unit and that box contraption, but theres a big difference between 300 and 100 bills.

oh the guys at Best Buys are gonna loooooove me. i have so many stupid questions for them.

thanks guys for your help

I have a Clairon head until that is "XM Ready" and an Audiovox mini XM tuner, you can take the mini tuner out and plug it in to home units as well.

That Clairon also has full iPod controls

I bought and Alpine head unit that was XM ready for like 600, then the next year when the boys signed on I had to get the tuner box and have it installed. That ran me about 300. So I assume it was like 225 plus labor. In my work van I have an old MyFi and the antenna just hanging there. It works fine and was way cheaper to set up, but it's a mess.

You wouldn't want to see the inside of my Jeep. I have an XM unit mounted to the right of my car stereo, a Sirius unit sitting on the dash, and an Ipod holder/receiver plugged into the other cigarette lighter.

How in the hell do you see out the windshield?

I think I paid $349 for the MyFi. When I got the first SkyFi it was over $100. I bought a Roady2, but I think it was around $60-$80 can't remember for sure.

Now I'm just using the MyFi and the Audiovox mini tuner.
