I own a bar in Worcester MA called the Lucky Dog Music Hall.
I was absolutely cringing and clenching my fists when Dave was going on his little idiotic rant about the NJ bars.
Guys like this are the reason we have such a high insurance policy, strict rules and a constant fear of someone getting in an accident on their way home.
A bar CAN be responsible for the amount of drinks served to a patron, yes...but can they be responsible for that next bar they hit, that fifth in their car or maybe even a hatred for an individual bar and having that person getting pulled over and just saying I was at "this" bar all night?
It's fucked up and a shit pile of responsibility for good honest people trying to supply assholes like Dave a good time.
I'm gonna make a poster for my bar w/ a picture of Dave and write "PERMANENTLY SCRATCHED" from the Lucky Dog
Man up Dave...you're old enough to take responsibility for your own actions.

Well, that's old school blue-laws for ya.
No happy hour, ladies night, one-day drink specials and all the fun stuff out in other areas.
Some towns in MA actually have a 12am last call!
We're lucky enough to have a 1:30 am last call.
But unlucky enough to have all the copes in the city at all these bars waiting outside at 2am to pull potential offenders over.

In a nutshell, Dave was saying if he gets pulled over it's the bars fault. They are trying to pass some stricter laws in NJ. Ronnie was verbally beating the shit out of him and made EVERY point shine.
Ronnie...GREAT job!

But wait I thought Dave Lived in NY why go all the way out to NJ in the 1st place. Granted if your fucked up its the bartenders responsibility to cut a person off. At the same time its the Intoxicated person who should relize I'm to drunk to drive I will just stay here untill I sober up.

It's pretty fucked up that someone can go out and have fun and get a little crazy... try to get home and do something stupid then have the balls to say it's the bar's fault.. Either I take them home (if they're a friend) or I call them a cab... I give them two choices, the back of a cab or the back of a police car.

While you are right it's the bartender's call, some people can hide it better than others.. most places are busy and crazy and you can't sit there and talk to someone for a minute while getting their drink order.. or there is loud music playing and you can't tell the difference..

I guess I'm one sided because I have many friends that work in the industry and have run karaoke shows... but it all comes down to personal responsibility. Sure it's my job to keep you there and have fun.. but it's you're responsibility to be an adult and keep your priorities straight.

But if you are a bartender and I say get in the bar at 8pm, and you have kept feeding me booze untill last call its not that hard to relize im drunk.

Bullshit... some people can maintain all night... some people have one drink and go nuts... at the end of the day you are not a bartender or waiters responsibility... it's that passing of personal responsibility that killing our country... if you need someone to cut you off and put you in a cab stay the fuck home... if you can't take care you yourself why should we... yes, Ronnie B said it first and a hell of a lot better but I couldn't agree with the man more on this one

Dave is hurting his own partying here. If this law really went through then he wouldn't be able to go to the bar and get drunk. they don't know if he is driving home or not. they just know that if he gets drunk there they have responsibility over him now. so no one would be allowed to get drunk at bars any more. i love dave but this point is stupid.

That wasn't even the issue. Sure, you have to be a complete moron in the bar business to feed you that many drinks and not try to take "care of you". We've usually spent all that persons tip money on their own cab ride home... It wasn't about Dave being there all night, it was about him failing a breathalyzer and such only after a couple of drinks and blaming the bar because they are responsible too.

What kind of alcholic wants stricter alchol laws?

Who has an avitar of themselves drinking a 40 and can't spell alcoholic/alcohol.

And yes ESD is way off base saying it is a good law. If this law passes it is only a matter of time before they want make bars have a 2-3 drink max, or a 1 drink per hour/per customer law.

When ESD is at a bar getting tanked and singing Bon Jovi into the bottom of a stool, how does that bartender know that he isn't driving.
